BioTemps® Provisionals
With BioTemps® Provisionals, you can provide your patients with a beautiful smile as soon as you prepare their teeth. These crowns, bridges and full-arch prostheses restore lost vertical dimension and promote contoured healing for ovate pontics or anterior extractions. They are also recommended by periodontists for patients who will undergo tissue therapy. BioTemps Provisionals can also serve as natural-looking temporaries at any stage of implant treatment, while screw-retained BioTemps Provisionals over implants will help create a predictable path of insertion. Because BioTemps  Provisionals retain the position of the gingiva, there are no surprises on the patient’s final visit, making them ideally suited for obtaining patient acceptance prior to prescribing the final restoration. Send us your impression or preoperative model, and we will do the rest. After preparation, simply reline and cement the BioTemps provisional in the mouth. You can even take an impression of the BioTemps provisional so the laboratory can duplicate the dimensions and morphology in the final restoration. BioTemps Provisionals include a cast-metal substructure when indicated by a pontic span greater than three units, and are backed by a six-month warranty. There is now one more reason to prescribe BioTemps Provisionals because we can scan your case, store the file and use it to create the final ceramic restoration. Simply request our “scan and save” service when filling out your prescription and we will duplicate the contours of the BioTemps provisional using CAD/CAM processing.

PREP, RELINE AND DELIVERY Requirements

  • No preparation is needed for BioTemps. However, existing preparation of any type can be used.
  • For best results, reline with a methyl methacrylate acrylic reline material (Jet, Lang; Coldpac, Motloid; Palavit 55, Heraeus Kulzer). Other reline materials should be avoided. However, if used, mechanical undercuts must be cut into the abutment shells for better retention and reline material.
    1. Try in restorations. If any adjustment is needed to seat the restoration, use a low-speed carbide or composite finishing bur. Rinse with water and dry completely.
    2. Apply a thin layer of Vaseline to the outer surface of restoration to prevent excess reline material from sticking. Reline BioTemps by blocking out any undercuts on the preparations.
  1. Mix acrylic per manufacturer’s instructions and fill abutment between 1/2-3/4 full. After the surface of the acrylic material loses its shine, carefully place the BioTemps over the preparations. Do not allow the reline material to fully cure on the preparations due to heat generation, which may cause injury to the pulp. Gently work the BioTemps on and off the preps, allowing them to bench cure.
  2. Trim away any flash or excess acrylic using a plastic grinding disc. BioTemps can be polished with pumice and polishing paste or resealed with a light cured glaze, such as Palaseal (Heraeus Kulzer). Cement BioTemps using a non-eugenol temporary cement (Zone, Cadco). If higher retention is needed, Neo-Temp (Teledyne) may be used.
